I was offered to ride on a Nepali bus a few days ago. Not a local bus, but a bus that takes you to far away distant places. I respectfully declined.

In the US, Mass Transit is Green, and since being Green is now apparently the new "in" thing, that means Mass Transit between cities, is now cool and happening. In Nepal, while it is happening, there are very few things about it that are cool. You will not find any 20-something guys with scruffy beards on trains with macbooks listening to their latest podcast in Nepal, because, well, there are no trains, and if there were, it wouldn't be trendy to ride one.


America's Cheap Intercity Transportation

Chinatown buses (www.chinatown-bus.com for those of you who are not up on your mass transportation news, aka, not cool) which feature quick late night rides, and low fares between cites, are actually becoming a trendy method of transportation in the US. Chinatown buses have been known to catch on fire, get stuck on medians, and get in mild accidents that in general cause no major injuries. These "events" leave the trendy traveler with not only a good amount of money saved, but also with an exciting story to tell his or her friends.

"Yeah I was telling my friend about how music is not so much about expressing yourself, but about how, it’s like more about really expressing yourself, when all of a sudden the bus caught on fire. It was crazy."

"Well I could kind of see them....and I was coughing a bit"

Simply put, my suggestion is when in Nepal, do not ride on night buses. Take a plane whenever possible. If no plane, take a bike.

Is that " ' " in the right place?

So today, I have officially made more posts in a single blog than I have in any other blog that I have made. This is the third post, so that tells you how well the last blogs went.

Today features another sign I saw on the way to the Festival.

I can see what they were trying to get across but I don't think it came out quite right. I don't know how many tailors there are out there serving the animal/Beings from another planet population, but this one clearly is not one of them. Perhaps the animal tailor market was not meeting the growth expectations that the owner thought he should be meeting, and decided to enter the niche market of human tailoring?

Two Posts, One Day?

Maybe starting with two posts in one day will help with me doing this longer. Or, perhaps it will make it end sooner. Only time will tell.

This is a picture that I saw on the way to a festival that I attended on Saturday. It is about earthquakes, and I found it rather odd at first.

I am pretty sure that the text reads "In case of earthquake, make sure you are not the family disgrace or failure" with missing dialog:
Father: "You are nothing to me!"

I have not felt any earthquakes while I have been here, but if one does happen, I don't think its going to be pretty at all. Lets just say the Kathmandu Building and Construction Standards Board is not really well funded...or possibly existing.

Hello World

This is the first post of this blog. I started a Blogger blog before but never followed through with it, so we shall see how long this lasts this time. Anyway, I am in Nepal for 5 months from now and this is where I will be putting my thoughts, ideas, and pictures about Nepal, and other random subjects that I think should be talked about..by me.

So, to start off with, here is a picture that I took this weekend.

This may seem like a depressing photo to start off with, and maybe you are right, but it was a festival, and its a pretty big wheel, so that has to count for something.
